EMERGENCY

In an emergency, always call triple zero (000) for an ambulance. Ambulances are the safest way to be assessed, treated and transported to the right hospital for the care you need.

Triple zero (000) is a free call from any phone, mobile or phone box.

For less severe but still urgent situations, go to an Emergency Department.

There are 12 public hospital Emergency Departments in Northern NSW Local Health District and they are all available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Seven babies were born on New Year’s Day across our hospital footprint – welcoming in the new year with joy!

The first arrivals of 2025 were twin boys born at Tweed Valley Hospital to proud mum Heiarii Ioapa.

“It’s a welcome and unexpected surprise,” Heiarii said. “This year has started with a bang, a touch of happy chaos!”

The twins’ delivery was assisted by student midwife Amy Gleeson.

“I am honoured to have been a participant in Heiarii’s birth and am truly grateful to the family for allowing me to help their babies into the world,” Amy said.

Tweed Valley Hospital later welcomed two more babies—Mack, a boy, and Oshir, a girl—on New Year’s Day while hospitals across the District celebrated the arrival of three more little ones, making it a joyous start to 2025 for families and staff alike.
