EMERGENCY

In an emergency, always call triple zero (000) for an ambulance. Ambulances are the safest way to be assessed, treated and transported to the right hospital for the care you need.

Triple zero (000) is a free call from any phone, mobile or phone box.

For less severe but still urgent situations, go to an Emergency Department.

There are 12 public hospital Emergency Departments in Northern NSW Local Health District and they are all available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

An important first step for the redevelopment of Grafton Base Hospital will begin soon with the refurbishment of two blocks within the former minimum-security compound of the old Grafton Correctional Centre.

This space will provide administrative, office and training support for hospital staff.

What we're building

The hospital redevelopment will deliver a new three-storey building on the hospital grounds, including a new Emergency Department, Emergency Short Stay, Medical Imaging and MRI, and Inpatient Unit.

The Day Surgery and Operating Suite will expand to provide two extra operating theatres.

The new building will provide a space for maternity services to be relocated in the future and identifies future development zones.

Construction timeframes will be confirmed once planning is finalised and a builder engaged.

Health Infrastructure acquired a portion of the former gaol for hospital use from Property NSW. The Northern Regional Planning Panel recently approved the development application.
