Northern NSW Local Health District (NNSWLHD) is working towards being the leading regional local health district in Australia.
"A healthy community through quality care"
Northern NSW Local Health District provides a diverse range of public healthcare to over 300,000 residents across the district through 12 hospitals and multi-purpose services, 20 community health centres and other facilities.
Healthy living means eating well and being active and having the support to do so.
Our goal is to create environments that make it easier for people, families, and communities to choose healthier options.
Our Northern NSW Health Promotion Team works with schools, early childhood services, community groups, and local organisations. We support their communities to build healthy habits for the long term.
Our services focus on prevention and early support to help people stay healthy and lower the risk of long-term disease. We deliver a range of programs that support people across the lifespan.
The early years are an important time for children’s growth and development. We support families to make healthier choices between birth and five years, to build strong foundations for life.
Munch & Move
Munch & Move is a NSW Health program that supports early childhood education and care services to:
encourage healthier eating
increase physical activity
support breastfeeding
encourage water as the drink
limit screen time.
How we support Early Childhood Education and Care Services staff
We provide training, tools and easy‑to‑use resources that fit with early learning programs. Educators can access these resources at any time to use in their services.
Feeding babies and young children can feel tricky and stressful. The PICNIC Project is here to make it easier.
PICNIC is a free feeding program available to parents and carers of infants/children aged 0-6 years. It supports parents feeding through the often challenging first years. It helps to create a more relaxed feeding journey.
Schools play an important role in children’s health and wellbeing. We support primary schools to help their communities eat well and be active, as part of everyday school life.
Live Life Well @ School is a program across NSW that helps schools promote healthier eating and active living. It uses a whole-of-school approach to support students, staff, and families.
The program helps schools to:
encourage healthier eating
increase physical activity
encourage water as the main drink
improve school policies and environments
involve families and carers
create more chances for students to be active during the school day
Teachers, families, and canteen staff can access practical resources and learning opportunities.
How we support schools and teachers
We provide support in the following areas to help children eat well and be active:
canteen menu
Crunch&Sip
physical education including fundamental movement skills
school kitchen gardens
information for families: healthier eating, physical activity, screen time, sleep
