EMERGENCY

In an emergency, always call triple zero (000) for an ambulance. Ambulances are the safest way to be assessed, treated and transported to the right hospital for the care you need.

Triple zero (000) is a free call from any phone, mobile or phone box.

For less severe but still urgent situations, go to an Emergency Department.

There are 12 public hospital Emergency Departments in Northern NSW Local Health District and they are all available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Across our District, staff are lifting each other up through thoughtful gestures that make a real difference.  

Whether it's a quiet moment of support or going the extra kilometre for a colleague or patient, kindness is part of everyday life in our workplaces.

Here’s a few recent nominations that show how kindness lives in every corner.

Samantha Sestito – implementation coordinator, medical services

Sam is generous with her time and knowledge. Even while juggling multiple roles and projects, she always makes space to help others and works in ways that make people feel valued.

Suzanne Melchior – critical care and emergency nurse, Ballina District Hospital

Suzie brings calm and compassion to the emergency department. She listens deeply to patients, helps them feel safe and supported, and always greets others with a smile.

Simone Jenkinson – nurse, Byron Central Hospital

Simone’s gentle nature shines in her care for palliative patients. She offers dignified, empathetic support to both patients and families during some of life’s hardest moments.

Wayne Bailey – enrolled nurse, Tweed Valley Hospital

Wayne is a steady source of kindness and comfort. He’s deeply attuned to the emotional and physical needs of patients and is always ready to support his colleagues with thoughtful advice.

Kristen Gannon – nurse, Byron Central Hospital

Kristen goes out of her way to welcome new staff. Her efforts help create a warm, inclusive environment where everyone feels part of the team from day one.
