Perinatal Infant Alcohol and Other Drugs Service
Our Perinatal Infant Alcohol and Other Drugs Service (PIAOD) provides specialist and professional support to care for pregnant women.
The service is designed to address the barriers to accessing antenatal care and provide continuity of care during the perinatal period. The PIAOD provides support and co-ordinated interventions for pregnant women with recent or current substance use issues to promote best-health outcomes for mothers and their families. Our clinicians are located at Tweed, Lismore and Grafton three days per week.
The role of the PIAOD Nurse is to:
- provide supportive case management
- provide an Integrated Care model involving a multi-disciplinary team, incorporating programs such as Safe-start Refer to other specialist services as required, for example AOD Counsellors, Residential Inpatient Withdrawal Units or Rehabilitation Services, General Practitioners, Antenatal Care, Mental Health, Aboriginal Health, Parenting support, Child and Family Health Team and Hospital Consult and Liaison
- provide holistic care in a non-judgemental environment
- care for women with medical, social and psychiatric conditions.
