The Aboriginal Health Directorate works to build Aboriginal cultural considerations throughout our health service.  We work with clinicians, staff and managers to improve local policy, planning and program development to enhance culturally appropriate health care to Aboriginal people on the North Coast.  

We deliver healthy lifestyle services and programs to Aboriginal communities within the District from Tweed Heads to Grafton and surrounding communities. 

Our Aboriginal Health Directorate is responsible for delivering tailored Aboriginal services which include:

• Healthy Lifestyle Programs, cultural support, health education and promotion.
• Chronic Care management and support for Aboriginal people and their families.
• Implementing the ‘Respecting the Difference’ cultural framework.
• Supporting Aboriginal patients and their families through their end of life journey via our Aboriginal Palliative Care service.
• Strategic planning and advice, report against relevant plans and review data and performance to support the direction of health services and programs delivered to Aboriginal people.
• Strategically lead and provide expert advice on Aboriginal workforce initiatives.
