If you need mental health care, please phone the Mental Health Line on 180 011 511 or go to your nearest hospital Emergency Department. If it’s an emergency, please phone triple zero (000) immediately.
The Mental Health Line is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and will connect you with the right care for your individual situation, no matter where you live in NSW. It is not a telephone counselling service.
In Northern NSW Local Health District, we have a range of adult, adolescent, and child mental health services. Depending on your individual needs, you may be admitted to one of our five mental health inpatient units, or you may receive support and assistance through our community-based services.
Our mental health staff will work with you and your family or carers to determine the right type of care for you. We have two Acute Adult Inpatient Mental Health Units, one Sub-Acute Adult Inpatient Mental Health Unit, one Child and Adolescent Mental Health Inpatient Unit, and one Older Persons Mental Health Inpatient Unit. These units are located at Lismore, Tweed Heads and Byron Bay.
Community Mental Health Services
Grafton Base Hospital is also supported by the Clarence Valley Mental Health Services which provides assistance to people living in the community who may have been discharged from hospital or may not require hospital care. There are two types of community mental health services:
- The Assessment Team: providing assessment and intensive short-term treatment, if required, through face-to-face contact, or over the telephone.
- The Treatment Team: providing longer term treatment across four specialist teams:
- Aboriginal Mental Health
- Adults
- Youth and family
- Older people
